Celebrating Obama's Victory : Join Obama Kenya Safari 2016!
Barack Obama & Michelle Obama
Barack Obama's election as US president has made him an idol in his father's homeland Kenya, with his pictures gracing calendars, vehicles and the walls of many homes. The country is even holding a five-day cultural extravaganza to celebrate the inauguration of America's first black head of state. Barack Obama II is
now the 44th President of the United States of America, with a term starting on January 20, 2016. He is the first African American to be elected President of the U.S.A. To cerebrate his victory, we have designd a special African Safari that will take you to the very place in Kenya, where Obama's family originates. Barack Obama was born to Barack Obama, Sr., a Luo from Nyang’oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a white American from Wichita, Kansas. Nyang’oma Kogelo is a village in Siaya District, Nyanza Province, Kenya. Nyang’oma Kogelo is part of South East Alego electoral ward of Siaya County Council and Alego Constituency. The village has a primary school, a high school (Senator Obama Secondary School) and a health centre. Learn More >

Itinerary: Obama Kenya Safari 2016 (11 Days / 10 Nights)

Day 1 - Nairobi City - The Fairmont Norfolk Hotel
Land-only tour starts in Nairobi this morning. Upon arrival in Nairobi you will be met and greeted with our "traditional welcome" and escorted to The Fairmont Norfolk Hotel in the heart of the city by AfriChoice! Tours & Travel representatives. You will be assisted with check-in procedures. Rest of the afternoon is spent on a Nairobi orientation sightseeing featuring visits to Nairobi's principal land-marks and places of interest. Situated in the Central Highlands at an altitude of 6,130 feet (1,870 metres), Nairobi enjoys a mild climate. On our driving tour of the city and its surroundings we will see Uhuru Park, Kenya's Parliament House, the Kenyatta Conference Centre, City Square and some of Nairobi's popular suburbs. We also visit the Kenya National Museum with our guide to learn about Kenya's wildlife, geology and human history. This evening after dinner, we assemble for a safari briefing by your local tour leader. Retire at the hotel for overnight. Buffet dinner is included. The Fairmont Norfolk [B,L,D].

Days 2 & 3 - Amboseli National Park [Mount Kilimanjaro]
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Wilson Airport for a short flight to Amboseli National Park. Begin your exciting journey with an aerial view of the legendary "snows of Kilimanjaro." At 19,340 feet, the snow-capped peak of Africa's highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, will welcome you as you fly to Amboseli National Park located at its foot. Home to over 1,000 elephants, herds of wildebeest, lion and over 300 species of birds, it is here that Ernest Hemingway spun his stories of big-game hunting in the wilds of Africa. Part of Maasailand, it's not unusual to see the proud Maasai warrior or small children tending their cattle. This is also the park where Cynthia Moss, the noted American naturalist and author, has conducted the longest-running study on elephants. Visit the Amboseli Elephant Research Project where Cynthia, or a member of her professional staff, will discuss their work. Your lodge has unbeatable views of the Amboseli plains across to Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Tanzania. All meals overnights at Amboseli - Ol Tukai Lodge [B,L,D]

Days 4 & 5 - Samburu Game Reserve
After breakfast, depart on the scheduled flight from Amboseli airstrip to Nairobi Wilson Airport to connect on a scheduled flight to Samburu Game Reserve. Wing your way past the equator and onto Samburu Game Reserve in the ruggedly beautiful, semi-arid desert of northern Kenya. Met on arrival and continue on morning game viewing in the game reserve. Nestled amidst the acacia groves that border the crocodile-filled reaches of the Uaso Nyiro River, the lodge stands centre-stage to miles of lion-stalked grasslands, elephant-studded plains and wildlife-teeming bush. It is also ideally placed for visits to the neighbouring parks of Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserve. The Reserve is within the lands of the colorful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, and home to a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx. Experience the serenity and tranquillity of Samburu at Samburu Serena Safari Lodge [B,L,D]

Days 6, 7 & 8 - Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Feel like Karen Blixen as you wing your way to the Maasai Mara, Kenya's most famous game reserve. Met on arrival and continue on morning game viewing drives in the Masai Mara game reserve. Lunch at the Mara Serena Safari Lodge. After lunch, afternoon game viewing drives in the Masai Mara game reserve. Much the setting for the film Out of Africa, its seemingly endless savannah inhabited by exotic animals including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, rhino and hippo. There are also over 500 resident species of birds in the park. The reserve covers an area of 700 square miles and hosts the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores from the Serengeti plains, following the rains and succulent new grass. Exciting optional activities (at additional cost) are available such as witnessing dawn over the Serengeti from a hot air balloon or visiting a Maasai Village to experience this nomadic tribe’s way of life. All meals overnights at Mara Serena Safari Lodge [B,L,D]

The Lake side city of Kisumu is home to a number of tourist attractions. These include interesting cultural centers such as the Museum and the Kit Mikaye, The popular Boat trips from the local yacht club to Ndere Island or just around the Gulf. Lately, Kogelo Village received international attention, since it is the hometown of Barack Obama, Sr., the father of current United States President-elect Barack Obama. Barack Obama, Sr. is buried in the village. Some of their family members, including his paternal grandmother Sarah Obama, still live in the village and we have good chances of meeting and talking to her. On the trip, we visit a primary school, a high school (Senator Obama Secondary School), and a health centre as well as donate gift items to the community's children and enjoy a photo session with the Kogelo People.
