Kenya Safaris By Air
[ACKT1]: Wings Over Kenya - Tented Safari By Air (12 Days)
Experience Kenya with the same style and flair as it was first enjoyed by those lucky few - Karen Blixen, Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway and Beryl Markham - under canvas, camping the way it was meant to be! On this safari, Edwardian elegance and modern comfort is at your beck and call. Tented accommodation of the highest standard provides luxurious surroundings and a real taste of the African bush. With all the facilities of a top class hotel, the tented camps featured will exceed your expectations in every way. Each tent is impeccably decorated with hand-carved wooden furniture often including an armoire, desk, night table and four poster bed surrounded by mosquito netting.

Enjoy award-winning cuisine served on fine crystal and china ware and after-dinner liqueurs beneath a star-strewn African sky. Feel the freedom of the skies and the perspective of a bird as you fly by small plane to the next camp watching some of the most beautiful animals on earth cross Kenya. Soar above the herds and thrill to game viewing from "on high." This winged safari reduces time spent travelling between game parks by road and allows more time for game viewing on these spectacular game parks and reserves.

Safari Itinerary: Kenya Classic Safari Adventure (10 Days)

Day 1 - Nairobi - The Norfolk Hotel
Arrive into Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport today. After clearing customs you will be met and transferred to Nairobi’s famous Norfolk Hotel. Dating from Kenya’s colonial days, the Norfolk is a landmark in Nairobi, rich in history, enhanced by up-to-the-minute facilities and amenities including a heated swimming pool, health club (fully equipped gym, aerobics room, sauna & steam rooms), salon, news-stand, and gift shops. Spend the rest of your day relaxing or venture into downtown Nairobi for some shopping. Dinner is on your own tonight. Overnight - The Norfolk Hotel (B & B basis)

Days 2/3/4 - Amboseli National Park / Mount Kilimanjaro
Begin your exciting journey with an aerial view of the legendary "snows of Kilimanjaro." At 19,340 feet, the snow-capped peak of Africa's highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, will welcome you as you fly to Amboseli National Park located at its foot. Home to over 1,000 elephants, herds of wildebeest, lion and over 300 species of birds, it is here that Ernest Hemingway spun his stories of big-game hunting in the wilds of Africa. Part of Maasailand, it's not unusual to see the proud Maasai warrior or small children tending their cattle. This is also the park where Cynthia Moss, the noted American naturalist and author, has conducted the longest-running study on elephants. Visit the Amboseli Elephant Research Project where Cynthia, or a member of her professional staff, will discuss their work. Your camp has unbeatable views of the Amboseli plains across to Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Tanzania. TORTILIS CAMP. (B,L,D Daily)

Days 5/6 - Mt. Kenya Safari Club
Since you are a part of an elite club of safari travelers to explore Kenya in such style, AfriChoice! is going to officially welcome you to the club. Fly to Nanyuki where you will be escorted to Mt. Kenya Safari Club. Set high on the slopes of Africa's second highest mountain, it straddles the Equator in a glory of luxurious cottages and elegant buildings set amid manicured lawns and decorative ponds. Ever since the Club was founded in 1959 by the late film star William Holden, it has been a Mecca for the international jet set - its list of members reads like a who's who of royalty, aristocracy, and the rich and famous. Enjoy horse-back riding, golfing or hiking while here. Experience exciting wildlife viewing at nearby Sweetwaters privately-owned 22,000 acre reserve, home to broad horizons and a variety of animals - herds of elephant, reticulated giraffe, buffalo, oryx and zebra. MT. KENYA SAFARI CLUB. (B,L,D Daily)

Days 7/8/9 - Samburu Game Reserve
Wing your way past the equator and onto Samburu Game Reserve in the ruggedly beautiful, semi-arid desert of northern Kenya. The Reserve is within the lands of the colorful Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, and home to a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx. Your luxury tented camp is set on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River and offers unique game viewing in its immediate surroundings. Founded by renowned conservationist and elephant researcher Iain Douglas-Hamilton, STE focuses on research, grassroots, education and protection of these endangered giants. Long distance movement by radio-tracking elephants via GPS collars helps to understand them and establish vital corridors in their range that need protection. STE involves local people in research and conservation to stimulate learning and foster positive attitudes. Between game drives, enjoy a nature walk, camel ride across the river or relax poolside. SAMBURU INTREPIDS CLUB. (B,L,D Daily)

Days 10/11/12 - Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Feel like Karen Blixen as you wing your way to the Maasai Mara, Kenya's most famous game reserve. Much the setting for the film Out of Africa, its seemingly endless savannah inhabited by exotic animals including lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, rhino and hippo. There are also over 500 resident species of birds in the park. The reserve covers an area of 700 square miles and hosts the annual migration of up to two million wildebeest, thousands of zebra and an escort of carnivores from the Serengeti plains, following the rains and succulent new grass. Exciting optional activities (at additional cost) are available such as witnessing dawn over the Serengeti from a hot air balloon, flying to Lake Victoria to fish for giant Nile perch or visiting a Maasai Village to experience this nomadic tribe’s way of life. Your tents have been specially designed to open up to the sky and also feature a private open-air Victorian bathtub. Herds of watering elephant, giraffe and other animals can often be seen from each tent's verandah. Together with its sister camp, Mara Intrepids, the Explorer runs a Community Development Fund for building and equipping primary schools and medical clinics in the area. Guests are invited to visit these facilities, offering a fascinating insight into traditional Maasai life. MARA INTREPIDS EXPLORERS CLUB. (B,L,D Daily).

Day 10 - Back to Nairobi, Departure
After breakfast fly back to Nairobi, Kenya's colourful capital city. Lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. Carnivore Barbecue Experience is also described as 'Meat Eaters Paradise' and is the Africa's Greatest Eating Experence! If your flight departs this evening, you may opt to take a day room to rest at The Norfolk Hotel. Your tour leader will advise you on cost and options available. Later, we transfer you to the Airport for your onward arrangements. AfriChoice! airport representative will re-confirm your onward flight, and assist you at check-in.
