Begin your exciting journey with an aerial view of the legendary "snows of Kilimanjaro." At 19,340 feet, the snow-capped peak of Africa's highest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, will welcome you as you fly to Amboseli National Park located at its foot. Home to over 1,000 elephants, herds of wildebeest, lion and over 300 species of birds, it is here that Ernest Hemingway spun his stories of big-game hunting in the wilds of Africa.
Part of Maasailand, it's not unusual to see the proud Maasai warrior or small children tending their cattle. This is also the park where Cynthia Moss, the noted American naturalist and author, has conducted the longest-running study on elephants. Visit the Amboseli Elephant Research Project where Cynthia, or a member of her professional staff, will discuss their work. Your camp has unbeatable views of the Amboseli plains across to Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Tanzania.
Tortilis Camp is an award-winning luxury tented camp in Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is best known for unrivalled views of Kilimanjaro and its elephant population – over 1000 elephant in the Park eco-system, which are some of the biggest elephant in Africa. Tortilis Camp is named after the flat topped, umbrella thorn tree, the Acacia Tortilis, and is situated just outside the Park in one of Amboseli’s few remaining areas of unspoilt woodland, with the majestic backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, snow-capped Kilimanjaro. Kenya to the south and arid lowlands to the north. Each tent has thatched roof, verandah, and full en suite bathroom, very much in the 'Lewa' style. The central areas have exquisite gardens with a large sunny verandah and swimming pool to enjoy during the day, and cosy log fires in the lounge and dining room for the more chilly evenings. Three (3) nights at Lewa Safari Camp (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Lewa Airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Masai Mara. The flight is approximately 1hour / 45minutes. Upon arrival at the airstrip‚ you will be met by a driver/guide who will transfer you to the Governors Camp to check in. From the airstrip you will enjoy a short game drive viewing. After lunch you will have an extended game drive until 1800hrs. The first sight of Masai Mara Game Reserve is truly awesome. Here we learn and see first hand the intricate web of dependency that binds the different animal species together. Each of the animals has adapted to its own niche and to the other animals that surround it. Here we see Nature at its most subtle and, sometimes, most cruel as each animal struggles to survive and reproduce.
On our morning and afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara we have a very good chance of seeing all the major plains animals including lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino, hyena, cheetah, jackal, warthog and many species of antelope.. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight. On the subsequent 2 days, every early morning game drive conducted in 4×4 vehicles and accompanied by an experienced driver guide. Lectures on wildlife conservation and culture are regularly given. Each day you will engage in a variety of exciting safari activities. They vary depending on the clientele needs and include bush activities, hot-air balloon rides, fishing excursions, evening entertainment and sundowners.
Once reserved exclusively for Kenya’s colonial Governors and their royal visitors, the Governors Main Camp is today popular with both animals and their admirers visiting the Maasai Mara and is currently hosting the BBC film crew for Planet Earth Live. The camp emphasis is on enjoyment of the wildlife heritage of Africa in the highest possible style. Situated along the banks of the Mara River in the west of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve Governors Main Camp is an icon of standards in luxury tented camping, putting particular emphasis on comfort and a seamless service, all complimented by the sort of good food which would have been impossible to savour in the bygone days of the grand safari. Maintaining these unique qualities as a tradition, the camp has been refined and improved over the years. We stay the 3 Nights at the Governors Main Camp in the heart of Mara Triangle. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
After breakfast enjoy your last photo session and game drive before checking out of your rooms. SINGLE ROOM SUPPLEMENTS: Generally, group tours are priced based on a standard room charge that’s divided between two people sharing a twin or double room. If a solo traveller chooses to have their own room, they are not sharing the cost with a second traveller. The single supplement is therefore an additional charge to make up the full cost of the room. Most hotels in East and Southern Africa will charge you an extra fee for staying in a room alone! Sic! This is why, against our wish, we charge you the 'Single Room Supplement' for travelling / staying solo on your trip.
HOLIDAY / EASTER / CHRISTMAS: In addition, most hotels in East and Southern Africa charge Easter and Christmas Supplement from if your booking falls on between December 24th and Jaunuary 2nd of every year. Most Safari Lodges charge the supplement for the following dates 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 01 January every year. The best way to avoid the supplements is to avoid travelling on dates within the mentioned dates (if possible) not only to avoid the high rates but also to avoid the huge crowds of people withnessed in the festive season travel.
