Mozambique seems to have finally found peace after decades of internal conflict, and many visitors revel in the "untouched" beaches and pristine islands that are free from development and sprawl. The main cities of Maputo or Beira are most easily reached by flight from nearby South Africa. First colonized by the Portuguese in the early 1500s, it has an intriguing legacy of colonial forts and buildings. Mozambique’s main attractions are its islands and its endless, largely undeveloped coastline. The Quirimbas and Bazaruto archipelagos are great places to relax on the beach, and also to see some amazing marine life. Maputo Special Reserve is an excellent spot for ocean safaris, as well as for seeing some elephants and other wildlife in a coastal setting. More about Mozambique.
On arrival in Maputo you will be collected from the airport and taken through to the Maputo Marina. Here you will be collected by the lodge staff and assisted to the waiting boat, which will transfer you just over an hour to the lodge. (Please note that some ankle depth water will need to be waded as you disembark the boat as there is no jetty.) We recommend early flights into Maputo as the boat transfers don't run late in the afternoon. On arrival at the lodge, you will be shown your room and the rest of the day will be at your leisure. Your stay includes all meals as well as soft drinks, water, tea/coffee, as well as local and imported alcoholic beverages. Overnight at Machangulo Beach Lodge(BLD).
Activities included in your package are: Kayaking, stand-up paddling, snorkelling and a guided dune walk. You can also enjoy one Inhaca Marine Reserve snorkel, one Santa Maria Village Tour and one Dhow cruise per stay. These activities should keep you busy and ensure an enjoyable stay, or of course you can choose to simply relax on the beautiful beach. And then of course the diving in Mozambique is a must. There is a PADI diving centre at the lodge, as well as an instructor, so you can learn while you play. All meals and Overnights at Machangulo Beach Lodge(BLD)
Once you've enjoyed breakfast and checked out of the lodge, take the boat transfer back to the marina, where a transfer will take you back to the Maputo International Airport for your flight to Vilankulo. You will be met and transferred to Bazaruto Archipelago. This secluded resort hugs the pristine white sand beaches of the largest island in the protected Bazaruto archipelago, 30 kilometers east of mainland Mozambique. Overnight at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort (BLD).
Two full days enjoying the peace and tranquility of Bazaruto Archipelago. Surrounded by the warm Indian Ocean, this marine reserve is a paradise for snorkelling, diving, fishing or lying and soaking up the African sun. Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort offers a calm, private and peaceful paradise where days are spent relaxing on the picture-perfect beach, indulging in freshly prepared local cuisine and being pampered at the spa. All this tropical tranquillity is spiced up with a myriad of adventure activities to enjoy every inch of the island and surrounding ocean. Overnight at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort (BLD).
This morning after breakfast, we drive to Gorongosa National Park where we shall stay for 2 nights. Gorongosa has been through a lot in its relatively short life as a national park. Once one of Africa's finest, with superb populations of predators and herbivores, the sanctuary has been decimated by civil war, recovered, fallen foul of unrest again, and has even been a playground for Hollywood actors. So what’s happening now? Gorongosa is currently undergoing a complete transformation under the auspices of the Carr Foundation, a US not-for-profit organisation, in partnership with the Mozambican Government. Expected to take 20 years to complete, the project is still in its early stages, but Gorongosa already boasts good populations of oribi, waterbuck, warthog, sable, elephant and lion, among others – we can only hope it gets better and better. And in the midst of it all is Muzima, a brand-new luxury tented camp, resting on the banks of the Mussicadzi River and offering an intimate old-world safari experience for intrepid guests. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the park. All meals and Overnights at Muzimu Tented Camp (BLD)
If you’re still deciding whether to visit the Quirimbas, here’s our shortlist to help you make up your mind… Firstly, it’s astoundingly beautiful—32 white-hot atolls, ranging in size from tiny coral sandbars to larger inhabited islands, ringed by intricate patterns of dense mangroves and the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Which brings us to the second reason; the waters. Vamizi and Quilalea are among the top diving spots in the world with 350 species of tropical fish calling the pristine reef home as well as humpback whales, turtles and the enigmatic dugong. And the third? No one else knows about it, so if you hurry, you’ll have this charming paradise all to yourself. If you’re looking for a truly luxurious Quirimbas Archipelago experience then look no further. This tastefully decorated lodge has managed to blur the lines between opulence and barefoot luxury. It’s no wonder they were voted Mozambique's Leading Luxury Hotel Villa at the World Travel Awards in 2015. All meals and stay at Azura Quilalea (BLD)
Today you will depart the island and make your way to Pemba airport for your flight to your next and/or final destination at the end of the Mozambique tour. Additional accommodation can be arranged for an extra cost. (B)

SINGLE ROOM SUPPLEMENTS: Generally, group tours are priced based on a standard room charge that’s divided between two people sharing a twin or double room. If a solo traveller chooses to have their own room, they are not sharing the cost with a second traveller. The single supplement is therefore an additional charge to make up the full cost of the room. Most hotels in East and Southern Africa will charge you an extra fee for staying in a room alone! Sic! This is why, against our wish, we charge you the 'Single Room Supplement' for travelling / staying solo on your trip.
HOLIDAY / EASTER / CHRISTMAS: In addition, most hotels in East and Southern Africa charge Easter and Christmas Supplement from if your booking falls on between December 24th and Jaunuary 2nd of every year. Most Safari Lodges charge the supplement for the following dates 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 01 January every year. The best way to avoid the supplements is to avoid travelling on dates within the mentioned dates (if possible) not only to avoid the high rates but also to avoid the huge crowds of people withnessed in the festive season travel.
